Niles Hollowell-Dhar (born on 1988, October 6) is an Indian-American musician, record producer, and DJ of Kashmiri descent.
He is very famous for his stage name Kshmr (which is pronounced as ‘Kashmir’ and styled as KSHMR).
Niles was ranked 23rd on DJ Mag’s 2015 Top 100 DJs poll and was also awarded the highest new entry for the year. He even has launched his own music label, Dharma Worldwide in July 2017.
KSHMR has also has performed live at many music festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, EDC, Parookaville, and Sunburn Tomorrowland.

Where was Kshmr born?
KSHMR was born in San Diego, California. Hollowell-Dhar started to make music under the alias KSHMR in 2014 after previously being part of the duo called The Cataracs with David “Campa” Benjamin Singer-Vine
While growing up, it was a little hard for him fitting due to his teenage heritage, but he gradually learned to embrace his ancestry.
Hollowell-Dhar got his stage name from the erstwhile state (which is now a union territory) of Jammu and Kashmir in India, from where his paternal side hails from.
Why was Kshmr famous?
KSHMR started his career in 2003, at first, he started to produce music with the name of the Cataracs after departure from Singer-Vine’s until 2014.
He was already one half of the hip-hop production duo with high school friends named David Singer-Vine, and released hits such as “Like a G6” with Far East Movement and “Bass Down Low” with DEV, also co-producing other songs such as Selena Gomez’s second song off her debut album “Stars Dance.”
In 2015 Hollowell-Dhar was introduced by Tiesto at Ultra Music Festival. And finally, the world knows about the story behind his stage name KSHMR.
Hollowell-Dhar collaborated on a song with Tiesto and Vassy which was a great hit. It even reached the top of the Beatport Chart.
He then announced he will be hosting Spinnin’ Records in June, a remix contest for his track “Jammu” – The first prize collaborated with him on a new track.
The contest was held on Spinnin’ Records’ Talent Pool platform and also the first place went to KYFRA, who won the collaboration with him.
In July, Hollowell-Dhar released Splice Sounds which become his highly anticipated debut sound pack.
After the following contest, he announced his first live performance, at the Fonda Theater, Los Angeles, which took place on September 19, 2015.
In 2016 he released his first EP, “The Lion Across the Field” on May 13. He even performed his first set at Tomorrowland music festival on the main stage on July 23.
Kshmr also collaborated with Tigerlily in his new single “Invisible Children” on September 5. He receives the award for the ‘Best Live Act’ category on DJ Mag.
His place even rises from 23rd to 12th in DJ Mag’s 2016 Top 100 DJs list. To release the single “Extreme” he collaborated with Blackjackers featuring Sidnie Tipton via Spinnin’ Records on October 24.
He also released a new song titled “Voices” with Will Sparks as a free download on Spinnin’ Premium in October.
In 2017, Hollowell-Dhar released “Back to Me” in March. He also shares the stage with Timmy Trumpet at Ultra Music Festival on March 24 and also played with the live musicians throughout the whole set for the first time in his career.
He even collaboration with Tiesto on June 16 titled the song “Harder”. The first song released via KSHMR’s label, Dharma Worldwide was titled “Festival of Lights” which is based on Indian culture, which was a collaboration with Maurice West.
In a week he released another song named ‘Kolkata’ in collaboration with JDG and Mariana BO on Dharma. On July 29 he played at the main stage of Tomorrowland 2017.
He released a collaboration song ‘Divination’ between him and the Dutch duo No Mondays on August 4. Also, He released The Serpent on the same day collaborating with Snails.
He also released ‘Power’ collaborating with Hardwell on Spinnin’ Records.
Hollowell-Dhar featured Sonu Nigam a popular Bollywood singer for the track ‘Underwater’ which he releases on October 13 on his own label Dharma Worldwide.
He also released ‘Islands’ on Dharma Worldwide with electro-house producer R3HAB on December 1.
KSHMR worked with producers Marnik and the Golden Army to release a psytrance-influenced big room house track titled “Shiva” on December 29.
House of Cards
In 2018, KSHMR released “House of Cards” on February 16 which features Sidnie Tipton, who also provided vocals to “Wildcard”.
The track was influence by pop and acoustic components. He played a set presenting new tracks and many of his well-known production at the main stage of Ultra Music Festival Miami.
On May 18 he released “Doonka”. He even collaborated with Jake Reese to release a song named “Carry Me Home” on June 15.
On July 22, he released his Greek-influenced single named “Opa” with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, and on August 3 he releases “Nevermind” with 7 Skies.
He also released his big single “Magic” which featured uncredited vocals by Vassy on November 2.
On 2019, June 24, he releases his new educational Dharma Worldwide platform.
Besides that, he also announced a big room collaboration with Australian producer Timmy Trumpet which he titled “The People” and released on June 28.
Controversy with Emiway
What was the big controversy that Kshmr was on?
Again, the following day he released “Lies” with Dutch producer B3rror featuring the vocals of Luciana. After that, he released “My Best Life” with Australian singer Mike Waters on July 12.
However, the track attracted some controversy as Indian rapper Emiway and his song “Machayenge” have some portion of Hollowell-Dhar’s sample pack of Sounds of KSHMR Volume 3.
On 2020 October 15, he released the single “One More Round” featuring Jeremy Oceans.
He released the song on Spinnin’ Records which was also a collaboration with Singaporean game developer Garena for their game Free Fire in celebration of the game’s “Booyah Day” event which was held from October 16 to November 1.
Because of his collaboration, Free Fire introduced into their game a new character based on Hollowell-Dhar named K.
In 2021, Hollowell-Dhar released singles named ‘The World We Left Behind’ featuring Karra and ‘Around the World’ on January 15 and February 26 respectively.
These were the first and second singles from his debut studio album Harmonica Andromeda. Besides, he released the rest of the album on March 19, featuring 11 songs and 3 interludes.
