Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968 – November 13, 2004), better known by his stage name Ol’ Dirty Bastard, was an American rapper and producer (often shortened to ODB).

He was a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group based in Staten Island, New York City, that rose to mainstream fame with its debut album Enter the Wu-Tang in 1993. (36 Chambers).

Icelene Jones was his wife at the time. He died in Manhattan, New York City, on November 13, 2004.

He and his cousins Robert Diggs and Gary Grice all liked rap music and martial arts films.

Jones, Diggs, and Grice (later known as Ol’ Dirty Bastard, RZA, and GZA, respectively) founded the group Force of the Imperial Master, which became known as All in Together Now following the success of their underground single of the same name.

Tragically, From the window of his Brooklyn recording studio in February 1998, Ol’ Dirty Bastard witnessed a car crash.

He and a friend rushed to the crash scene and rallied a group of about a dozen onlookers to help pull the 1996 Ford Mustang from the rubble. It saved a 4-year-old girl.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard signed a deal with Roc-A-Fella Records on the day he was released from prison in 2003.

He used his criminal record to title his VH1 special Inside Out: Ol’ Dirty Bastard on Parole. In which he was staying at his mother’s house under house arrest and court-ordered probation.

He also completed his third album. A Son Exclusive, which was supposed to be released in 2004 through Dame Dash Music Group.

On July 17, 2004, Ol’ Dirty Bastard performed with the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan at the Rock the Bells hip-hop festival in San Bernardino, California, for the second to last time.

His last live show was on July 18, 2004, at the Gathering of the Juggalos in Garrettsville, Ohio.

On November 15, 2018, “Intoxicated” from the unreleased album A Son Unique was released as a single to commemorate Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s birthday.
