Hudler earned first-team All-America accolades as a wide receiver while playing baseball, soccer, and football.

Hudler was visited by Notre Dame after signing with the Yankees, who thought he would play football for them.

Then, he spent 1986 and 1987 in the Triple-A International League with the Rochester Red Wings.

In 1988, he was a starter at third base for the American Association’s Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.

During his stay in St. Louis, Hudler earned the moniker “Bug-Eater” after picking a huge June bug off his cap.

Tom Pagnozzi, a cardinals teammate, dared him to eat it, and he did.

He accepted an offer of $800 from his teammates to eat the insect.
